Binding posts (also called Chicago screws) are a practical and sturdy alternative to rivets: no special tools required, just a screwdriver; punch a 3/16″ (5 mm) hole, insert the screw through your layers and tighten the cap. For a permanent hold, you can use a drop of Loctite thread locker.
